About
I'm an amateur golfer and former software developer.
I've spent years playing golf with friends, managing mini comps and golf trips through WhatsApp group chats and dodgy spreadsheets. I've also been on the other end — watching the group organiser work tirelessly to keep the competition alive, turning up late to post-round drinks because they're stuck in their room updating a spreadsheet nobody can quite trust. Watching someone "maintain" the leaderboard with a clear personal interest. Arguing about whether that was a 5 or a 6 on the 14th.
So I decided to build something better.
I used to be a developer, primarily working with C# on Windows applications. Whilst I still understand the syntax, the tech has moved on enormously — and although this idea first came to me back in 2019, every attempt to build it hit a wall. Xamarin. Flutter. React Native. A few weeks of progress, then life got in the way and it stopped. Every time.
But something is different now. The rise of AI development tools has given me the motivation — and the means — to start again properly. Using what's being called "vibe coding", and with my new best friend Claude by my side, this time we're actually building it.
This blog documents the entire journey — from blank screen to the App Store. The progress, the setbacks, the decisions, and the occasional moment where it all clicks into place.
The app is being built for amateur golfers who love the game and love playing with their mates. It's not a corporate product. It's not VC-backed. It's being built by a golfer, for golfers.
For the love of the game.
